What It Is
A Modern Formulation, Despite the Name
Roman Clay is a lime-putty based plaster applied with a trowel or spatula in thin, overlapping passes. Each pass leaves a faint edge, and together they build the soft, cloud-like movement the finish is known for.
Despite the name, it is not a literal ancient Roman recipe the way Venetian plaster is. It is a contemporary lime formulation designed to evoke that same sun-washed, weathered look, which is part of why it reads as fresh in modern interiors rather than historical.
The sheen sits at matte, softer and less reflective than a polished Venetian wall, with a texture closer to raw stone than glass.
